I've never been to a Foot Specialist, what can I expect?

An initial foot assessment at Newmarket Advanced Foot Clinic and Orthotics involves a thorough evaluation of your foot health by our expert foot specialists. During this assessment, we will examine your feet, discuss any concerns or symptoms, and perform necessary diagnostic tests. We will then discuss the treatment, timeline, and pricing options available to you. This comprehensive approach helps us create a personalized treatment plan to address your specific needs and get you back to an active, healthy lifestyle.

What is the difference between a chiropodist and podiatrist?

Chiropodists and podiatrists are regulated health professionals who assess, diagnose, and treat a broad range of medical conditions of the foot. Historically, foot specialists were titled chiropodists, and Ontario remains the last place in the world to still use this title.

Ontario has used the chiropody model since 1991, and no new podiatrists have been registered here since then. If a podiatrist moves to Ontario, they have to register as a chiropodist and can’t perform bone surgeries. Both chiropodists and podiatrists are medical professionals who can:

  • Assess foot and ankle conditions

  • Prescribe medications when necessary

  • Perform injections for specific conditions

  • Perform soft tissue surgery

  • Prescribe and fit orthotics to address biomechanical issues and provide support

The primary goal of both chiropodists and podiatrists is to provide comprehensive care for foot and ankle health. These practitioners are trained and dedicated to assessing, diagnosing, and treating a wide range of foot and ankle conditions to ensure their patients’ overall well-being and mobility. They work to improve and maintain the health of the lower extremities, addressing issues related to pain, deformities, injuries, and more to enhance their patients’ quality of life.

Is my visit covered by OHIP?

Chiropody isn’t covered by OHIP. However, most private insurance companies do provide coverage for office visits and many procedures. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to check your coverage before your appointment.

Does this clinic provide direct billing to my insurance?

Our clinic does not offer direct billing to your insurance company. Services are paid for at the end of the appointment, and a detailed receipt will be provided with all the information needed by your private insurance company.

How do I know what my insurance coverage is?

We recommend contacting your insurance provider to learn what your coverage is for Chiropody/Podiatry services. It's important to note, typically items like custom orthotics or compression stockings are in a separate category.
